Required Refurbishments:
Technically speaking, Oar Blimey successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean in its current state and, if desired, could easily be dropped into the water to complete another crossing. However, with the benefit of hindsight and considering a few issues we encountered, we would recommend the following:
Must Do:

• Steering:
o New plastic steering bracket required (for connecting the rudder to the steering arm).
• Electrics:
o Reconnect the 2x VHF aerial connections on the bridge
o Renew the AIS aerial connection on the bridge
• Deck Pump:
o Investigate and fix why the deck bilge pump stopped working (since UK return)
• Solar Panels & Batteries:
o Investigate and fix why the rear solar panel doesn’t charge battery No. 2
• Water-maker:
o Locate and seal a small air leak between the sea-water suction point on the hull and desalination pump intake
• Gelcoat:
o Fill, sand, and paint a small thumbnail-sized chip on the very front of the bow gelcoat

Should Do:

• Electrics:
o Full re-wire based on Rannoch’s recommendation of doing this every few crossings or at least every 10 years
• Solar Panels & Batteries:
o Replace these based on Rannoch’s recommendation of doing this every few crossings or at least every 10 years
• Paint Work:
o Remove all current branding stickers and vinyl wrap, polish the external hull
o Remove flaking paint and repaint the deck
• Front Cabin:
o Replace a missing grub screw on the front cabin hatch door
o Recover a small cabin cushion (material included in spares equipment)
• Rear Rowing Position:
o Replace the fiberglass L-bracket for the rear footplate – It’s cracked but holds securely
Nice To Do
• Stern Hatch:
o Consider replacing the hatch door with a small crack on the glass panel for aesthetic purposes
